Health of Young People in Industry
Imperial Metal Industries (Kynoch) Ltd
The trend in the health of young people over the past 20 years has been reviewed, based upon pre-employment medical examination. Two periods, 1951-5 and 1964-8, have been selected for comparison. In the earlier period the social environment from which young people were drawn was reflected in their standard of physical fitness. In the later period, however, social class differences are no longer as apparent. Evidence is presented to support the view that the health status of the majority of young people today is good.It is suggested that there is still a need for pre-employmentmedical examination, preferably carried out by anassessor fully conversant with the demands of the jobboth physically and environmentally.Annual re-examination of young persons is not nowregarded as justifiable.
