Health Care of People at Work Agricultural Workers
Worcester
Three per cent of the working population of Great Britain are employed in agriculture. In spite of the reduction in their numbers in recent years it remains a substantial population some 350 000 people. Medical supervision is notable chiefly by its absence, though the Agricultural Safety Inspectorate has for years been engaged in improving standards of safety in dealing with mechanical, toxic and infective hazards. This article discusses some of the hazards to which agricultural workers are exposed and suggests some health precautions that might be adopted to protect them.Requests for reprints should be addressed to: Dr D.
