A Review of Coal Mining Accidents in Nigeria over a 10-Year Period*

S.E. ASOGWA

Department of Preventive and Community Medicine, University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital

The accident trends in the Nigerian Coal Corporation during five years before and five years after the civil war are reviewed. Higher rates observed during the post-war period have been attributed to worsened human and environmental factors. Recommendations are made on how coal mining accidents can be reduced by a positive approach to safety.
