The Heart Rate of Students in Examinations

O. P. Edmonds

Manchester University

The average minute heart rate of 23 students over a period of 3 hours in the examination room (90.2) is compared with that over a similar period spent in the library (83.7), immediately after the examination (104.9) and in sleep (64.8). The 7.8 per cent rise due to the examination is less than that previously reported. There was a peak rate 9 minutes before the examination and 14 minutes afterwards with a gradual fall over the examination period. The minute heart rate of 3 individuals during the 3-hour examination is presented and shows considerable variation. Some explanation of the results is afforded.
