J.T. ALLARDICE, E.C. CLARKE and R.D. JONES

Employment Medical Advisory Service, Health and Safety Executive

A prevalence study of respiratory symptoms and epistaxis history was undertaken comparing 120 backwinders in the carpet industry with a similar number of controls. There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups for epistaxis history but there was a significant excess of prevalence of respiratory symptoms among the backwinders when compared with the control group.
