The Health of Welders in Naval Dockyards: proportional mortality study of welders and two control groups
The mortality of welders and control groups employed for at least 6 months in HM Dockyard Devonport during a 20-year period has been studied using proportional mortality methods. It has revealed no evidence that exposure to welding fumes and gases is associated with increased mortality attributed to respiratory diseases or gastrointestinal or cerebral malignancies. There is evidence that occupational exposure to asbestos must be considered in studies of welder's deaths.
