A Comparative Study of Chilli Grinders with Paprika Splitters
Central Chest Clinic Colombo, Sri Lanka
Chilli and paprika have several properties in common. They both belong to the genus Capsicum, and contain the pungent principle capsaicin in the fruits. The powdered fruits are used as flavouring agents for oriental and East European dishes. Some of the symptoms described in chilli grinders and paprika splitters are common to both groups. A study of 12 chilli grinders is presented, and their clinical, radiographical and immunological features are compared with those of paprika splitters in whom a fibrosing alveolitis has been described. It is concluded that the two conditions are different.
