Medical Supervision of Workers During Demolition of Mercury Cell Rooms
1 ICI Petrochemicals and Plastics Division Wilton Site
2Wilton Site
The medical supervision of contract workers during the demolition of mercury cell rooms is described. Twentytwo demolition contractors' employees were monitored by weekly measurement of urine mercury (µgms mercury/gm creatinine). Urine mercury excretion reflected different demolition activities. Worker group results for urine mercury excretion were consistently below 200 µgm mercury/gm creatinine. This experience demonstrates. that careful medical and management supervision permit safe demolition of mercury cell rooms.
