Radiation Burn in a University Laboratory

O.P. EDMONDS1, and M.L. SUTTON2

1 Occupational Health Service, University of Manchester
2 Consultant Radiotherapist Christie Hospital, Manchester

This paper affords a chronological account of the clinical observations and the environmental investigation of a radiation burn of the hand due to X-rays in a senior member of academic staff during the course of his research work. It proved difficult to reproduce the exact mechanism of the injury and the importance of clinical judgement and an accurate occupational history are well illustrated.
