Colour Vision Testing and the Electricity Supply Industry

R.H.P. FERNANDEZ, Senior Medical Officer* and K.A. TURNER, Medical Adviser

Central Electricity Generating Board South Western Region
Merseyside and North Wales Electricity Board

Over the past 20 years the Electricity Supply Industry has relied on a colour matching test of wire when colour vision defectives make mistakes on the Ishihara plates. The authors were asked to devise a standard test to be used throughout the industry.

The colour mechanism and historical review is given. The new test which is described has now become the formally accepted Electricity Supply Industry Colour Vision Test and will be used throughout the Industry.
