Arsenic and Old Glass
Employment Medical Adviser, Health and Safety Executive, Dundee, UK
HM Inspector of Factories, Dundee, UK
A General Practitioner notified a case of arsenic poisoning. Further investigations of 23 other workers at the index factory and 4 other premises produced one other case and 8 had evidence of excessive absorption of arsenic. Workplace visits, environmental and personal monitoring helped to find possible sources of contamination. Advice was given to minimize the hazard; it was acted upon and urinary arsenic excretion fell to more normal levels.
