Occupational Health Research - Looking to the Next Decade
Epidemiologist and Honorary Consultant in Occupational Health, MRC Environmental Epidemiology Unit Southampton, UK
The Society's Research and Development Panel organized a meeting on 21 November 1989, to discuss research needs in occupational medicine over the next decade. In this paper I present a personal perspective based on the day's proceedings. I suggest that there is an imbalance between the research that is currently being done in Britain and what occupational physicians in industry feel they need. The Society and Faculty of Occupational Medicine should be looking for ways to redress this imbalance by improving communication between researchers and their customers.
